Super Meat Boy May Be Opening The Door For Other Indie Game Characters To Be Added To Super Smash Brothers Brawl

First Banjo Kazooie and now this!

It was only a few days ago that Xbox boss Phil Spencer tweeted about his hopes for Banjo to be a playable character in Super Smash Brothers Brawl, now Team Meat is throwing their names into the ring to try to get everyone’s favorite blob of meat in the popular Nintendo game.

Super Meat Boy is an indie video game developed by Edmund McMillen and Tony Refenes. The game was the successor of a flash game entitled, “Meat Boy” that was also developed my McMillen. The game was released to the XBox store in October of 2010 and is most known for its challenging levels, intense gameplay, and an even more challenging dark world.to each level of the game.

Nintendo’s new poll to pick the newest playable character to join The Super Smash Brothers Brawl roster started last week and has already introduced some interesting front-runners, including, Banjo, from the Banjo Kazooie series, Knuckles from Sonic Adventures, Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda, Rayman and even Team Rocket from The Pokémon franchise.

Now that Team Meat has seemingly opened the door to indie characters nabbing a coveted spot in the popular brawl game, one has to wonder what other indie developers will call on their loyal fans to put their favorite characters in the game.

Isaac from “The Binding of Isaac” and Golden Freddy from “Five Nights at Freddy’s” come to mind as other popular indie characters that would be awesome to see in Super Smash Brothers Brawl as well. Why not include YouTube gamers too, like “The Angry Video Game Nerd”, and “The Game Grumps”? If were opening the door to indie games, the gaming community needs to bridge the gap and include YouTube gaming commentators.

Move set wise, Golden Freddy would be best suited with a supersonic screaming attack that damages and paralyzes his opponents for a certain amount of time. That should get some controllers flying around the room in no time! Not to mention, some yelling and questioning of friendships.

As for Meat Boy, he should definitely have an increase in his speed and agility stats, making him more of a defensive character in the game. Maybe have a meat gun or something that he fires at his opponents to take damage, or even make Meat boy a Kung Fu master, able to shape shift his body of meat into fists and feet that can kick serious butt!

YouTube gamers like “AVGN” and “Game Grumps” could be difficult move set-wise. The Nerd does have his zapping gun in a few of the games he’s featured in, but Ian and Danny from Game Grumps, don’t have any kind of traits that could be used as power abilities at all.

Maybe the game could give Ian and Danny basic punching and kicking attacks, and then give Danny a powerful singing attack to blow his opponents across the stage. As for Ian, maybe the focus should be on his rage and rants while playing certain video games. They could give Ian a thrash attack, once he fills up a meter of rage. This would allow Ian to beat up opponents with supersonic speed, clearing the stage in no time.

Nintendo’s poll ends in October of 2015 and offers no guarantee of the top pick in the poll being the next character in the franchise. With that being said, it’s got to be fun for fans of these indie games to daydream about seeing their favorite character fight alongside the likes of Zelda, Link, Luigi and Mario in a Nintendo licensed game.

In the meantime, Nintendo announced last week that Mewtwo and Lucas would be available in an upcoming DLC pack for Super Smash Brothers Brawl, so that is certainly something fans have to look forward to while they wait for the poll to pick the newest character to close in October.

Which character would you rather see included in DLC for a Super Smash Brothers Brawl Game? Banjo, from The Banjo Kazooie collect-a-thon series, or Super Meat Boy, the little blob of meat that has taken the gaming world by storm? Let us know in the comments and let us know if there are any other characters you would like included in the game.
