Top Ten SciFi Movies Of 1999 | Best Science Fiction Movies

There were a few good science fiction movies in 1999, and a couple masterpieces that have gone down into history. Here is a list of the top ten scifi movies of 1999.

10 Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Why it's awesome This one has to make the list, even if it is number 10. I mean, it's Star Wars. Sure, it's nowhere near as good as the originals, but still there are light sabers, and Jedi Knights including of course Yoda. The special effects are rather impressive as well. Then there is the double light saber and Darth Maul, and so much more.

9 Bicentennial Man

Bicentennial Man
Why it's awesome A decent movie, it was long before its time. Interestingly, the last few years there have been a number of similar TV series, with robots coexisting with humans. Be prepared to start contemplating turning yourself into a rebot and replacing your old organs with cloned ones.

8 Universal Soldier: The Return

Universal Soldier: The Return
Why it's awesome Just another sequel in the Universal Soldier franchise, this action packed science fiction movie is full of explosions and kicking and cyborgs. You know that anything with Jean Claude Van Damme is going to be a lot action-packed fun.

7 eXistenZ

eXistenZ
Why it's awesome Put on your holographic lens and escape into a new world where you can see and feel as if you were really there, but aren't - or are you? This plot twisting mind bending cinematic experiment was decades before its time. Warning: there are some scenes that may be frightening and disturbing. This makes the list because the big picture of the movie is innovating and imaginative; but honestly I don't recommend you see it.

6 The Mummy

The Mummy
Why it's awesome Although it's technically a fantasy movie, this wonderful movie takes you on a journey to ancient egypt, an adventure to a far away place. It combines the beauty of Rachel Weisz with the amusing smirkiness of Brendan Fraser, and lots and lots of sand, and pyramids; oh yeah, and of course mummies. It's not a scary movie at all, except maybe for small children. Be prepared to take a scenic and beautiful adventure to far away and fantastic exotic places.

5 Deep Blue Sea

Deep Blue Sea
Why it's awesome Beautiful cinematography and amazing acting combine to make a true thriller that will make you love and fear the deep ocean all at the same time. The brevity of my description matches the mystery of the film.

4 Godzilla 2000

Godzilla 2000
Why it's awesome Everyone falls in love with this giant fire breathing, havoc wreaking nuclear monster. An epic piece of cinema based off one of the oldest and most famous Japanese monsters, bringing Godzilla to every home in America.

3 The Astronaut's Wife

The Astronaut's Wife
Why it's awesome I'm a little scared to put this one because the producers, writers, and actors, which include Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron, who are both at the top of my favorite actors, put together this story so well you will be frightened out of your socks in this intense, thrilling, bone-chilling and terrifying extra-terrestrial masterpiece that barely shows any real aliens but doesn't need to. Although this is a recommended and highly acclaimed movie, I do strongly suggest you turn on all the lights and don't watch this late at night or when you are alone. Trust me.

2 The Thirteenth Floor

The Thirteenth Floor
Why it's awesome A cool and mind-bending, plot-twisting retro futuristic science fiction masterpiece that all must see. Now go watch it!

1 The Matrix

The Matrix
Why it's awesome The cool slow motion scenes in The Matrix are still copied by many movies today. Not only is it an awesome movie, but it has many innovative and new media elements that were the first of its time. Some argue it is nothing but action, but those people must not have seen this movie, or used their brain. The plot of The Matrix is so deep and intense that it goes to the very core and foundation of our understanding of the universe. The Matrix is as much of a deep psychological and existential movie as it is an intense and action-packed masterpiece.

What do you think about this list? Do you agree with it or perhaps you have another to add to it?
